Trigger Editor
A MIDI trigger connects an incomin' MIDI message — from a foot controller, expression pedal, or control surface — t' an action in OnSong, so yer hardware can drive th' app hands-free. Arrr, this screen sets up a single trigger, matey! Yer changes save as ye make 'em, so just tap Done when ye be finished.
Which options appear depends on th' kind o' controller ye be mappin', but every trigger starts with these two:
MIDI Event
A MIDI Event be th' incomin' message that fires th' trigger — a note, a control change (CC), and so on. Tap t' choose th' message and its channel; th' row shows yer choice, like "CC 4 on Channel 1."
Action
Th' Action be what OnSong does when th' trigger fires, savvy? Tap t' pick from th' action chooser; th' row shows th' assigned action, or "Unassigned." For a variable control change like an expression pedal or knob that sends a smooth 0–127 sweep, ye'll also see:
Response Curve
Th' Response Curve shapes how th' controller's travel maps t' th' action, me hearty.
- Linear — th' controller and th' parameter move t'gether, 1:1.
- Logarithmic — most o' th' travel works at th' quiet end; great fer a natural volume feel.
- Exponential — most o' th' travel be subtle, and th' top o' th' range pushes hard, Blimey!
- S-Curve — stable at th' extremes and fast through th' middle; good fer crossfades.
Minimum and Maximum Value
These clamp th' input event useful range within 0–127. Anythin' outside th' range be ignored, so ye can dial in exactly th' sweep ye want, savvy? Th' minimum always stays below th' maximum.
For an momentary control, like a button or switch sendin' a CC, ye'll see these instead:
Behavior
Behavior decides how presses map t' th' action. Tap th' row t' cycle through:
- Momentary — active once a value greater than 0 be received
- Latch — fires th' action on both edges, but with no on/off value. Press fires it once, release fires it again, each just a plain action. Use it when yer controller sends a separate press and release message and ye want th' action t' respond t' both.
- Toggle — treats th' action as an on/off state. Crossin' th' threshold on th' way up sends th' "On" action while droppin' back below sends th' "Off" action. Use this fer anythin' with a held state like a mute, a hold, a light.
Threshold
This be th' value at or above which th' controller counts as on. Values below it be ignored. It defaults t' 1 fer Momentary and 64 fer Toggle.
Inverted
This settin' reverses th' input value direction. 0 becomes 127 and vice versa. Handy when a pedal be mounted or wired backwards, me hearty!
Active
This turns th' trigger on or off. Switch it off t' suspend th' trigger without deletin' th' bindin', so ye can bring it back later, savvy?
