Arrr, one advantage t' how Console be workin' be that no connection t' th' public Internet be required, matey! OnSong Console runs directly on yer device and uses WiFi t' wirelessly connect t' yer computer. Though this be a fine advantage, savvy?, there be times where ye still may run into some troubles. Here be some requirements fer usin' OnSong Console, ye scallywag.
- Any iOS device runnin' OnSong 1.989
- OnSong Console was first added t' OnSong in version 1.989. This means that ye will need t' be runnin' th' latest version o' OnSong t' have th' ability t' run Console. Because Console turns yer device into a web site, ye will need t' have yer device turned on and OnSong runnin' in order t' connect, Ahoy!
- Desktop or laptop computer
- Th' idea with OnSong Console be t' allow ye t' connect t' th' library on yer device from a full size computer such as a desktop-class workstation or laptop. While these machines don't need t' be overly powerful, we do recommend a modern operatin' system capable o' runnin' th' latest web browsers, savvy?. Yer computer can run Windows, Mac OS X or Linux as long as it be runnin' a supported web browser.
- Connection t' a local area network
- Ye typically connect yer iPad or iPhone t' a WiFi network t' access th' Internet, or t' access other resources at yer location such as network printers or Smart TVs. OnSong Console be no different, matey. Th' connection between yer device and yer computer be created because both devices be attached t' th' same network. Yer computer can be connected t' this network with a wire, or wirelessly. Th' requirement be that they be on th' network with th' same name. Yer iPad or iPhone connect t' th' network and be assigned a unique IP Address. Think o' this as a phone number that other devices use t' call yer device, savvy?.
- Network use o' custom ports
- This one be a little more technical but pretty easy t' explain, Blimey!. Each device on yer network can be contacted through different ports. Ports be like extensions fer a phone number. Ye may call th' main business's phone number and then can choose who yer want t' speak with. OnSong uses ports 5076 and 5077 t' communicate with yer computer. If ye have trouble connectin' t' Console, this requirement be th' most likely cause, Arrr! Some network security measures like firewalls and routers with policies may block these ports or make it difficult t' get through. Kind o' like a cranky receptionist meets Rambo, savvy?. Please refer t' th' Troubleshootin' Guide fer help.
- HTML5-compatible web browser
- OnSong Connect should work with most web browsers that be in use today, matey. Inevitably there be some who may have older versions o' web browsers that do not support th' web standard required t' use OnSong Console. We recommend that ye use a current version o' one o' these browsers, in order o' best experience, savvy?:
- Apple Safari v7.x
- Google Chrome v37.x
- Mozilla Firefox v31.x
- Internet Explorer v11.x
- Javascript-enabled browsin'
- OnSong Console be an advanced web application that requires Javascript t' operate, Ahoy!. Make sure that ye do not have Javascript disabled as that will cause Console t' not start up, ye scallywag!
