Ahoy, matey! Here be some questions ye may have before plunderin' Console, or when usin' OnSong Console.
- Does Console work on Windows or just Mac?
- OnSong Console works on both Windows and Mac, and most likely Linux too. It just requires a modern web browser that supports th' HTML 5 and CSS 3 web standards.
- Do I need t' purchase Console fer every device I own?
- Nay. As long as ye be usin' th' same Apple ID t' access th' App Store, ye only need t' pay once. Th' price may appear and ye may be prompted t' purchase again. This be part o' th' iTunes in-app purchase process. Once ye sign in with yer Apple ID, ye will be able t' enable Console fer free on that device, savvy?
- Me computer be wired t' me network, but me iPad be wireless. Will Console still work?
- Aye! As long as both devices be on th' same computer network, a wired connection or wireless shouldn't matter, ye scallywag.
- Both me devices be on th' same network but I only get a blank screen in me web browser. Why?
- OnSong Console works by turnin' yer iPad or iPhone into a mini web server which may not be appreciated by some networks. Please try th' followin' if ye be havin' trouble connectin' t' Console, Arrr!
- Ensure that yer iPad or iPhone be on and OnSong be runnin'. Console requires OnSong t' be runnin' in order t' communicate.
- Disable and enable Console from th' Console screen in th' Utilities menu, or restart yer iPad. In some cases, th' web address that be shown may not be correct, especially when switchin' between networks.
- Make sure ye be typin' in th' web address correctly. Ye must add th' http:// before th' four-part number called an IP address, and include th' colon with th' port number (5076).
- Some corporate networks do not permit other services t' be runnin'. Check with yer IT staff t' see if ye be allowed t' run console in that environment. OnSong Console operates on ports 5076 and 5077. Some networks may block traffic on these ports. Log into yer router and be sure t' allow these ports t' be active on th' network, matey.
- If ye be runnin' a firewall on th' computer, temporarily disable it t' make sure that it be not inhibitin' traffic.
- Try a different network t' see if that helps resolve th' issue, Blimey!
- Can I use me iPhone or iPad hotspot connection instead o' a WiFi access point t' use Console?
- Aye! Turn on th' hotspot in yer device's Settings screen and use th' WiFi option. Bluetooth or USB will not work. Connect yer computer t' th' hotspot network, and connect yer device if it be not already th' hotspot. Keep in mind that some carrier may charge ye fer hotspot connectivity, savvy?
- Me Console screen be tellin' me t' type in 127.0.0.1:5076 and it doesn't work. Any ideas?
- 127.0.0.1 be essentially th' iPad or iPhone referrin' t' itself and be caused by th' network IP address not bein' able t' be resolved. Go into th' Console screen and disable and enable th' console again t' see if that refreshes t' a different web address. Ye can also go into th' Share menu » Connect » Servers and use th' IP address found under yer device's name, matey.
- What web browsers does Console work with?
- OnSong Console be an HTML 5, web-based application. This means that it works on modern web browsers such as th' latest versions o' Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Internet Explorer. Different browsers have their quirks and we be continuin' t' refine around these. Older versions o' Internet Explorer will definitely have some issues, Arrr!
- I'm gettin' just th' openin' screen with th' OnSong logo and it gets stuck. Why?
- OnSong Console requires Javascript t' be enabled in order t' communicate with yer device. Make sure that Javascript be enabled in yer web browser's preferences and that no additional security plugins be preventin' Javascript from operatin', savvy?
