ZOMG, You Actually Need to Know This Stuff

So here's the thing about OnSong Console — it's basically a party that doesn't need to crash the internet's house. OnSong Console lives right on your device & uses WiFi to gossip with your computer like they're besties. Sounds sick, right? Except sometimes they fight. Here's what you gotta have to make the magic happen.

Any iOS device runnin' OnSong 1.989

OnSong Console showed up in OnSong version 1.989 & literally didn't exist before that (shocking, we know). So yeah, you gotta be on the latest & greatest OnSong or you're gonna have a bad time. Here's the kicker — Console turns your device into a lil' web server, so your iPad or iPhone has gotta be awake & OnSong has gotta be runnin' or the whole thing just sits there like a confused puppy.

A desktop or laptop computer (y'know, the big one)

OnSong Console is all about lettin' you poke at your device's music library from an actual full-size computer. Like, not a smartwatch. Not a potato. We're talkin' a real desktop beast or a laptop that won't make you cry. They don't need to be insanely powerful (we're not askin' for a gaming rig), but they should be runnin' a modern OS that can handle a decent web browser. Windows, Mac OS X, Linux — doesn't matter, as long as it can run somethin' that isn't from 1997.

WiFi network connection (aka "the invisible thingy")

You know how you connect your iPad or iPhone to WiFi to doom-scroll or watch cat videos? OnSong Console needs that same vibe. Both your device & your computer gotta be on the same WiFi network — doesn't matter if the computer's plugged in with a cable or floatin' around wirelessly, but they GOTTA be on the same network with the same name. Your iPad or iPhone gets a special IP Address (think of it like a phone number for your device) so other stuff can find it & be like "hey u."

Custom ports aren't blocked (the technical-ish bit)

Okay, buckle up. Each device on your network can be reached through different ports. Ports are basically like... extensions on a phone system. You call the main number, then you pick who to talk to. OnSong uses ports 5076 & 5077 to yell at your computer. If Console won't connect, THIS is probably the villain. Some network security stuff (firewalls, routers with a chip on their shoulder) can totally block these ports like some kind of cranky receptionist who studied with Rambo. HTML5-compatible web browser (aka "not ancient junk")

OnSong Console should work with like, basically any browser that isn't fossilized. But inevitably someone's out there with Internet Explorer from 2003 & we gotta say it: that ain't gonna work. Use a current version of one of these browsers (ranked by how much they'll make you smile):

• Google Chrome v37.x
• Mozilla Firefox v31.x
• Internet Explorer v11.x

Javascript turned ON (cuz duh)

OnSong Console is basically a fancy web app that absolutely needs Javascript to do anything useful. If you turned Javascript off in your browser settings (why would you do that?), Console is gonna sit there & do nothin'. Just... don't do that.
