Y'all Keep Asking the Same Stuff (We're Not Mad)

ZOMG, You Got Questions? We Got Snark.

Here are some questions that you may have before purchasing, or when using OnSong Console (aka the thing that'll either change your life or make you want to throw your iPad).

Does Console work on Windows or just Mac?
OnSong Console works on both Windows & Mac, and prolly Linux too if you're feelin' spicy. It just needs a modern web browser that doesn't suck—ya know, one that actually supports HTML 5 & CSS 3 like it's 2024 or somethin'.
Do I need to purchase Console for every device I own?
Nope! As long as you're flexin' the same Apple ID across the App Store, you only gotta pay once. Sure, it might look like you gotta buy it again. That's just iTunes bein' all dramatic & stuff. Sign in with your Apple ID once, & boom—Console unlocks for free on that device. You're welcome.
My computer is wired to my network, but my iPad is wireless. Will Console still work?
Yep! Both devices on the same network? That's literally all that matters. Wired, wireless, carrier pigeon—doesn't matter, amirite.
Both my devices are on the same network but I only get a blank screen in my web browser. Why?
Oh boy. OnSong Console turns your iPad or iPhone into a lil' web server, & apparently some networks are not vibin'* with that. Try this before you rage-quit:
  1. Make sure your iPad or iPhone is actually on & OnSong is runnin'. Console needs OnSong breathin' to even exist. It's codependent like that.
  2. Toggle Console off & back on from the Console screen in the Utilities menu, or just restart your iPad like it's 1997. Sometimes the web address gets all confused, especially when you're bouncin' between networks like you can't make up your mind.
  3. Double-check you're typin' the web address right. You GOTTA add http:// before the four-part number thing (called an IP address), & don't forget the colon & port number (5076). Details matter, bestie.
  4. Some corporate networks are paranoid & won't let other services run. Ask your IT peeps if you're allowed to even exist there. OnSong Console uses ports 5076 & 5077—if your network's blockin' those, y'all are outta luck unless you beg your router admin to let 'em through.
  5. If you're runnin' a firewall on your computer, turn it off for a sec & see if that helps. Sometimes firewalls are just bullies.
  6. Try a different network. Different vibes, different results, ya know?
Can I use my iPhone or iPad hotspot connection instead of a WiFi access point to use Console?
Heck yeah! Fire up the hotspot in your device's Settings & pick WiFi. (Bluetooth & USB are gonna ghost you, sorry not sorry.) Connect your computer to that hotspot network, & make sure your device is the hotspot itself. Fair warnin' tho—some carriers are gonna charge you for hotspot data like it's made of gold or whatever.
My Console screen is telling me to type in 127.0.0.1:5076 and it doesn't work. Any ideas?
Oof, that's the iPad or iPhone bein' all self-absorbed & just talkin' to itself. It means the network IP address is confused & can't figure itself out. Go back to the Console screen & toggle it off & on again—hopefully it'll snap outta it & show you a real web address. Or! Go to Share menu » Connect » Servers & grab the IP address that's chillin' under your device's name.
What web browsers does Console work with?
OnSong Console is HTML 5 & web-based, so it vibes with modern browsers like the latest Chrome, Safari, Firefox & Internet Explorer (if you're feelin' nostalgic). Every browser's got its own personality & quirks, & we're still finagling with those. Old Internet Explorer versions? They're gonna have a bad time.
I'm getting just the opening screen with the OnSong logo and it gets stuck. Why?
OnSong Console needs Javascript turned on to actually talk to your device. Make sure Javascript is enabled in your browser's preferences, & check that no sketchy security plugins are blockin' it from doin' its thing.
