Custom Strums

Th' eight built-in strum patterns cover most songs, but nay th' one in yer head, savvy? Custom Strums be where ye write yer own — a named pattern that then appears in th' Strum menu alongside th' presets, matey.

List

Every pattern ye've written be listed by name, with a compact map o' th' pattern underneath it — D fer a down-stroke, U fer an up, and . fer a rest, grouped a beat at a time. It be enough t' recognise a pattern at a glance without openin' it, Arrr!

Like other lists in th' OnSong^® app, ye can tap on an item t' edit it and swipe right t' left t' delete it. T' add a new pattern, tap on th' + button in th' upper right corner, ye scallywag.

Editor

Th' editor be opened if ye tap on an existin' strum pattern, or tap th' + button t' create a new one. This editor lets ye specify a name and a pattern, Ahoy!

Name

This be what th' pattern be called in th' custom strum menu. Leave it blank and it be saved as Me Strum.

Pattern

One bar, divided into sixteenths, laid out as two rows o' eight. Th' captions above th' squares be how ye'd count it out loud — 1 e & a, 2 e & a on th' first row, 3 e & a, 4 e & a on th' second — so th' square ye want be th' one ye'd say, matey.

Tap a square t' cycle it:

• — a rest. Nothin' happens on that sixteenth.
• ↓ a down-stroke, rakin' from th' lowest note o' th' chord upward.
• ↑ an up-stroke, rakin' back down from th' top.

Tappin' again from ↑ returns it t' a rest, so a wrong tap be two taps from undone, savvy?

A new pattern starts with a down on each o' th' four beats — a plain quarter-note strum — rather than an empty grid, so ye be editin' somethin' that already plays, Blimey!

Savin'

Save Changes stores th' pattern and closes th' card. It appears in th' Strum menu's Custom section immediately, and be selected th' same way a preset be.

T' leave without savin', tap th' ✕ in th' corner o' th' card, or tap th' dimmed area outside it, Arrr!

Down-strokes on th' beats with ups on th' "&"s be th' shape most acoustic patterns take. Start there, then remove strokes rather than addin' them — most memorable strum patterns be defined by where they don't play, matey.
