For years people have asked for OnSong for Android and now, it's a reality.

Full Feature Parity

We were never content to make an app that was watered down or less than our iOS/iPadOS flagship product so we are happy to say that OnSong for Android is the full version. In cases where there is an Apple-specific technology, we've come up with ways to bring those features to life in new ways that work with the Android platform. Here are some ways that Android is different.

Apple Music

You can still link backing tracks from Apple Music and Spotify in OnSong for Android as well as import tracks directly into your OnSong library. Pragmatically you'll see little differences, You'll need to download the Apple Music and/or Spotify app onto your Android device and be required to be connected to the Internet to play the tracks since those services only support streaming. The interface for picking songs uses our own design instead of Apple and there's no way to play those tracks through the OnSong backing track player since they are streamed.

Audio Subsystems

We are proud of the work we've done in supporting all the audio-related features such as metronome, backing tracks, multitracks, pitch pipe, chord playback and more. Android supports all of it! We have some more things cooked up for you for 2027 and are pleased to say... Android will do it all. Android devices are quite diverse and many do not support low-latency audio, but a few do. This is just something to keep in mind if you are using our upcoming music production tools.

Document Scanning

OnSong for Android uses its own document scanner with an option to install and use the one available through Google Play Services. OnSong for iOS/iPadOS uses the built-in scanner. All the same features and end result, but just a bit different.

External Video

Some Android devices don't support wired video and only Apple devices support AirPlay. Because of that, we've added support not only for Google Cast, but other Smart TVs like the Amazon Fire TV, Google TV, and smart TVs from Samsung and LG. Just download and install the OnSong Display app on a compatible TV and stream your lyrics or chords wirelessly.

Files

Apple products started out with no good file access for app except something called "file sharing" which used a USB wired connection to a host computer to transfer files. That is just not available on Android but it makes no difference. Just use the "Files" option to import and export files located directly on your Android device. All the other options you know and love in OnSong like Dropbox, Google Drive, and OnSong Drive are right there too.

Fonts

Apple products come with a lot of popular and licensed fonts preinstalled like Helvetica, Georgia, Times New Roman, Courier, Verdana, and Marker Felt that OnSong has used for years. The trouble is that those fonts are licensed and can't be used in the cases where musicians need them. We've changed our fonts to be class-based and substitute the fonts for ones that look similar but give their own character. Along the way we've also let you use custom fonts in OnSong too.

Live Video

If you Android device has cameras, you can use our live video backgrounds for lyrics projection too! In OnSong for iOS/iPadOS, we used Apple's collection of video filters to apply effects which are not present on Android. However we were able to recreate 92 of the 120+ effects which means you'll likely not see a difference.

MIDI

Believe it or not, but we've brought the full power of our MIDI features to Android including support for Bluetooth MIDI and networked MIDI. The Bluetooth MIDI interface uses our own instead of Apple and networked MIDI may work slighting differently but should be interoperable between platforms.

Subscriptions

If you download from the Google Play store or Amazon Appstore, you can subscribe through those stores instead of the Apple App Store. You can also subscribe on the web if you like more control over how you pay for your subscription. Group subscriptions are only available on the web on all platforms.
