Ur Own Strum Game

The eight built-in strum patterns cover like... most songs? But probs not that banger stuck in your brain. Custom Strums is where you get to be a musical genius & write your own — a named pattern that then shows up in the Strum menu hangin' out with all the presets like it belongs there.

The List Situation

Every pattern you've scribbled is listed by name, with a lil' roadmap of the pattern underneath it — D for a down-stroke, U for an up, & . for when nothin' happens, grouped one beat at a time. It's enough to recognize a pattern at a glance without actually openin' it & starin' at it like a confused person.

Like other lists in the OnSong^® app, you can tap on somethin' to edit it & swipe right to left to nuke it from orbit. Wanna add a fresh pattern? Tap the + button in the upper right corner & stop procrastinatin'.

The Editor (AKA Where the Magic Happens)

The editor opens up if you tap on an existing strum panther, or tap the + button to birth a new one. This editor lets you name it & tell it what to do.

Name

This is what your pattern gets called in the custom strum menu. Leave it blank & it's saved as My Strum (real creative, right?).

Pattern

One bar, sliced into sixteenths, laid out as two rows of eight. The numbers above the squares are how you'd count it out loud — 1 e & a, 2 e & a on the first row, 3 e & a, 4 e & a on the second — so just tap the square you'd say & you're golden.

Tap a square to spin the wheel:

• — a rest. Radio silence on that sixteenth. Crickets.
• ↓ a down-stroke, scrapin' from the lowest note of the chord upward like you mean it.
• ↑ an up-stroke, scrapin' back down from the top like you're showin' off.

Tap again from ↑ & it goes back to rest, so if you tap wrong it's only two taps to undo your mistake. No big deal.

A new pattern starts with a down on each of the four beats — just a plain quarter-note strum, y'know? — rather than a blank grid, so you're already workin' with somethin' that actually makes noise.

Savin' Your Masterpiece

Save Changes locks in the pattern & closes the card. It pops up in the Strum menu's Custom section right away & works the same as any preset, no special treatment.

Wanna bail without savin'? Tap the ✕ in the corner of the card, or tap the dark area outside it & pretend this never happened.

Down-strokes on the beats with ups on the "&"s is the vibe most acoustic patterns rock. Start there, then delete strokes instead of addin' 'em — most killer strum patterns are actually defined by where they DON'T play.
