The Thingy That Makes It Go Brrr

Swipe-y Magic (Render Ahead/Behind)

When you're frantically swiping through songs in a set, OnSong is all like "lemme draw the ones before & after too so you feel fancy & smooth." Sounds great, right? Well, plot twist: your device is now juggling multiple songs at once like a sad clown, & that eats RAM like it's goin' outta style. Performance bummin' you out? Tweak it:

  • Automatic = OnSong plays god & decides what's "best" for you. Usually it's ON unless your file formats are bein' all difficult & demand it gets turned OFF. (This is the default, aka what we picked for you because we're nice.)
  • Off means only TODAY'S song gets drawn. Swipe to nothin' but blank pages (bummer!), BUT your phone won't catch fire. Solid pick if you're usin' wonky external files that OnSong never learned to love.
  • On = Always render the songs before & after, no take-backsies. Your RAM weeps, but y'all get buttery swipes.

Which Robot Does the Drawin'? (Renderer Version)

Pick which engine gets to turn your text-based charts into actual pictures. This applies to songs where nobody bothered to pick a renderer already. Choices:

  • Automatic = The robot figures it out based on what's in your song. Smart-ish.
  • Default = Whatever OnSong shipped with outta the box. Boring but reliable.
  • Original = The old-school renderer. Fewer bells, fewer whistles. Kinda sad, ngl.
  • New = Shiny new unified renderer with columns & inline formatting & all the fun stuff we keep adding because we can't stop ourselves.

Little Scroll Bars on the Side (Show Scroll Indicators)

OnSong's got a lotta panes that scroll. Horizontally? Yep. Vertically? Yep. By default those tiny scroll indicators on the right are off because apparently we thought you liked mystery & confusion. Flip this ON if you actually wanna see where you are in the document like a normal person.

Pretend Everything's a PDF (View Files as PDF)

OnSong's lowkey obsessed with turning imported files into PDFs to "maximize compatibility" (aka prevent your operating system from meltin' down tryna render them). It's ON by default & lets you vibe with your files in Low Light Mode & also inside OnSong Console in a browser. Turn it OFF & watch OnSong just throw your files at the OS web renderer & hope for the best. Narrator voice: It won't go great.
